The Petroleum Extension Service (PETEX) is a unit of the Division of Continuing Education at The University of Texas at Austin and has been training companies and individuals since 1944.

An oilwell-surveying method that determines the direction and angle of formation dip in relation to the borehole. It records data that permit computation of both the amount and direction of formation dip relative to the axis of the hole and thus provides information about the geologic structure of the formation.
