Its a large rectangle of pure printed cloth. The width spans from your neck to you knee, and is printed with bright colours and repetitive designs. It is primarily used by women to simply wrap around their waistes to cover themselves during a family gathering such as funerals, weddings, or other, or to carry babies, cover themselves when they during hot nights, and can be worn during any occassion.
It originates from East Africa, and is also called a "leso", or a "wrap". Its multi functional, and can be worn any where for any occassion, it also makes a great gift for moms, wives, sister, and best friends.

In the african culture the headwrap is worn by women for 3 reasons, (1)to protect ones hair while sleeping, or protect it from the sun, or (2) it may be worn as an adornment, during weddings and parties of sorts, (3) or as a sign of respect when at family gatherings.
It could simply be worn to keep your hair up and out of your face.
